FAQs - The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2026 - Criteria and Publication

Why is there an embargo date for using the Logo?

The embargo ensures your listing remains confidential and use of it coincides with the exclusive Sunday Times announcement on Friday 22nd May in our digital publication. Purchasing under embargo means you are able to prepare your marketing materials ahead of time to coincide with the announcement.

How are the results presented in publication?

Successful organisations are grouped into categories (Very Big, Big, Medium and Small) based on their number of employees and listed alphabetically. Rather than ranking companies, the publication celebrates all accredited workplaces equally within their size group. The ten highest-scoring companies in each category do receive special highlight recognition, but please note that these top 10 lists are also presented alphabetically.

How is The Sunday Times Best Places to Work calculated?

The Sunday Times Best Places to Work analysis uses 26 questions from WorkL’s employee engagement survey, developed by independent experts to accurately monitor workplace engagement and wellbeing. Organisations are evaluated across a six-step framework measured on a 0-10 scale: reward and recognition, instilling pride, information sharing, empowerment, wellbeing, and job satisfaction.

Employees respond to various statements regarding their working hours, pay, recognition, management relationships, and overall workplace wellbeing. An organisation’s overall engagement score is then calculated by taking the sum of all question responses, divided by the maximum possible value as a percentage.

To be officially accredited, organisations must achieve a minimum overall engagement score of 70 per cent. The top ten companies are those that achieved the highest scores within each of the four size groupings. All employee numbers are based on the time of the survey. Additionally, participants must meet strict minimum average response rates to qualify based on their size: 60 per cent for Small organisations, 50 per cent for Medium and Big organisations, and 40 per cent for Very big organisations.

What is a Spotlight and Industry Award?

Spotlight Awards recognise companies that go above and beyond to support specific employee groups, such as women, disabled employees, or younger workers, or excel in overall employee wellbeing.

Industry Awards highlight the best workplaces within specific business sectors, celebrating the top-scoring employers in fields like technology, hospitality, and finance.

Click the “Log In” button at the top of the homepage and select “Lost Password?”. Enter your email address, and you will receive a link to create a new password.

Reprints & E-Prints

What is the difference between a Reprint and an E-Print?

  • E-Print: A digital PDF version of an article or supplement featuring your company. It is optimised for distribution via your website, email newsletters, or social media.
  • Reprint: A physical, high-quality hard copy of the article. These are ideal for handing out at conferences, keeping in your reception area, or including in direct mail packages to clients.

Can I customise the article reprints?

Yes. We offer customised versions for both digital and print distribution. We can add your company branding, logo, or contact details to the reprint to make it a more effective marketing tool for your business.

Why should I buy a reprint instead of just photocopying the newspaper?

Photocopying or scanning newspaper articles for business distribution is generally a violation of copyright law (NLA regulations). Buying an official reprint or E-Print grants you the legal right to distribute the content. Furthermore, official reprints look professional, are high-resolution, and can be branded to suit your needs.
